Gas Station Park

Gas Station Park

Today, 9/8/10, I made a quick stop at Gas Station Park at 4801 S. Park Ave. Pretty much you can see the entire park from the photo.

Here is an excellent blog entry from Tacoma Mama about the park.

Today’s place of the day (9/7/10) is the Lincoln Post Office on Tacoma Avenue. This branch is only open from 8 to 5, Monday and Friday, which isn’t very convenient for those working a 9-5 job.

Hair Masters

Today, 9/6/10 was back to school hair cut day for dear daughter and off we went. She has a drawing of the hair cut she wanted and while it’s unusual, it looks great on her. The Hairmasters Chain seems to be all over. There are 6 of them within five miles of us! The photo is of their door.

Frisko Freeze

I thought today’s new place of the day would be Wright’s Park, but then I realized I had already checked in there for Ethnic Fest. So, it was a sacrifice, but we went to Frisko Freeze, a Tacoma icon. The milkshake was very, very good! 9/5/10

I hadn’t realized that it is on the historic register. Here is a News Tribune article on that process.

Steamers Seafood

Wanting to enjoy one of the last warm summer days, we went to Steamers Seafood Cafe for the new place on 9/2/10. The food is consistently tasty, but it is the location/view that makes this restaurant so special. Adjacent to Titlow Park, Steamers has a view of the Tacoma Narrows Waterway and The Tacoma Narrows Bridges.

The second photo shows the view from the park next to Steamers.  In the background is the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.  It was a lovely evening.

Le-Le Restaurant

The new place for today, 9/1/2010 was the ever delicious Le-Le Restaurant where I enjoyed Thai Curry. It was great and plenty for two meals.

Kim’s Teriyaki

Today’s new place was Kim’s Teriyaki on 6th Avenue and Sprague. This is my first checkin at Kim’s though it is a restaurant I’ve been to before. Usually we get take out. The employee’s (owners?) are always very pleasant and service is quick, making it the perfect New Place of the Day for the last day in August 8/31/10.
Update 1/11 – this entire strip center has been gutted, taken down to the concrete.  I don’t know its future.
Update 7/11 – A Walgreens is being constructed there.

UPS Store

Every new place can’t be exciting and today’s (8/30/10) was pretty standard. I went to the UPS Store on S. 38th to return a malfunctioning item to Amazon.Com and to send off a birthday present. My timing was lucky for once because there was no line, but when I left the line was six people deep with only one employee working the counter.

On Sunday 8/29/10 I went to Quaker Meeting (Tacoma Friends Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends). Certainly not my first time here, but my first FourSquare Checkin. I even had to make the FourSquare place!  This building is straight up the hill from Borders Books, near the Tacoma Mall.  Visitors are welcome.  The local link is http://tacoma.quaker.org/ and general information can be found at http://www.quakerinfo.org/
