McMenamins’ Anderson School, Bothel

imageI was pretty excited to hear that the newest McMenamins had recently opened in Bothell. It is known as the Anderson School and is located at 18607 Bothell Way NE, Bothell. So dear husband, dear daughter and dear daughter’s friend went to explore it this weekend. The complex includes a restaurant/tavern, several small bars, a lovely heated saltwater pool, a movie theater (in the previous gym), an area for a reception, a small store, outdoor areas with fire pits and of course, the hotel which is in the original junior high school which has 72 rooms located in the original classrooms.

Seattle Seahawks 12 Club

SeaTac Airport Alaska terminal has a 21 and older area for boarding passengers to relax while waiting for their plane. It is called Seahawks 12 Club. A quick peek inside showed many tables to sit and while away the time, some food and Seahawks paraphernalia. This statue is of Walter Jones #71 who was a offensive tackle from 1997 to 2009. 

  
 
I’ve also included a picture of the Starbucks at the terminal. I really like how they have the Seattle symbols lined up!  
 

Washing up at Mcmenamin’s Olympic Club

16544355252_bb97c504e0_oMcmenamins Olympic Club in Centralia has won the award for best women’s room sink (if such an award existed!). Today dear husband and I went for lunch before some antiquing (him) and outlet shopping (me).

The Olympic Club Hotel was built in 1913 and is a mixed use facility which includes a restaurant/bar, pool area, movie theater and hotel with guest rooms.  We didn’t take in a movie this time, though we have in the past. It is a great theater with comfy, overstuffed chair and a full menu/bar service. I snapped a photo between shows. The guest rooms have a shared centralized bathrooms (European style) and are uniquely charming. I had a photo from some years ago that I’ve included. The property has been a McMenamins since 1997.

The Pee Wee Tavern

pee weeThe Pee Wee Tavern at 7052 Pacific Avenue is a freestanding building that was just over 1,000 square feet. It is available for either sale or lease. The building was constructed in 1947 and was originally known as the Log Tavern or The Log.

 

 

Red Hot

9737094663_c46aac4bd8_bRed Hot at 2914 Sixth Avenue, Tacoma is relatively small bar that specialized in locally crafted beer and hot dogs. I had the 6th Ave Strut which is a hot dog with cream cheese, fresh chopped onions, tomatoes. It was delicious! Really, good food and company, it was a great way to start the weekend!

The Tav

The Tav at 117 West 4th Avenue, Ellensburg, looks like an ordinary bar from the outside, but on the inside there is a delightful outdoors courtyard area. The food was typical pub fare, but they did a really good job of it. And the company was even better 🙂

Treos, Old Town

Photo Aug 04, 1 42 13 PMTreos Coffee at 2312 N 30th St.,Tacoma, WA 98403 is where a Forza use to be. The decor is really lovely. and the backdrop of the bar is very nice. And my husband said the drip coffee was so good that he asked for a refill (free!). He never does that.

 

Boathouse 19 Bar & Grill

BoathouseA while back a friend suggested that I stop at Boathouse 19 Bar and Grill at 9001 South 19th Street, Tacoma for a root beer float. Dear daughter and I had spent Saturday afternoon checking out the University Place Garden Tours Gardens and actually met a long time Flickr friend by fortuitous accident. I offered to take dear daughter out for the float and of course once we got there and smelled all the good food we ended up having lunch. We shared the Pike Place Fish Fry (fish & chips) and each got dessert and it was wonderful. Though ironically we never did get the root beer floats! It was very wonderful to set on the deck, visiting, eating good good and enjoying the water & Narrows Bridge View. Their website is here.

Tides Tavern

8626036629_12a2526491_z The Tides Tavern at 2925 Harborview Dr, Gig Harbor, WA 98335 is a Gig Harbor institution. The waterfront building was constructed in 1910 and served as the area’s general store. It opened as the Tides Tavern in 1973.

I was there to meet an old friend and we both enjoyed delicious salmon burgers. It was great to have a chance to visit.

Moon Rising Over the Chieftain

SignI’ve often admired other folks’ photos of the sign for the Chieftain at 3015 South Tacoma Way and today I stopped to snap one of my own in the chilly March air (really snow called for in March?!).

The property was originally Victor Sea Food Products and Victor’s Oyster Bar and George Victor was the builder. It was built in 1946. In 1951 it became Ping’s Garden Chinese Restaurant and in 1953 there was a liquor raid with 41 arrested. In 1954 it became a Larry’s Drive-In Restaurant. In 1971 it became the Chieftain.
