The Happy Room at Golden City

The Happy Room and the Golden City Cafe at 3812 Yakima Avenue, Tacoma, began its life in 1932 A  U.S. Post Office, By 1952 it was the restaurant that its sign promotes. At some point it closed and it appears to be used for storage nowadays. I would have loved to have seen the neon lite!

Dead End, No Turn Around

Dead End, No Turn Around by Gexydaf

The Prairie House Museum at 812 E. 176th Street in Spanaway was today’s new place, so it saddened me that it wasn’t open. Their webpage said they are open on Wednesdays from 10 to 2 and every third Sunday of the month from 2 – 4. But the gate was locked, so I called them on the phone and a recording said they were usually open on Wednesdays from 10-2, but one should always call first. Good to know. I snapped a few photos through their really tall fence. The museum is a restored farmhouse from the 1890s, as well as some farm outbuildings and a log cabin.

While turning around, we discovered this delightful sign!

Really Love Something

The new place of the day is the parking lot next to the old Elks Club.  The parking lot itself is poorly maintained with weeds and broken glass.  When I drove past, I saw that art had occurred twice!  There is a great sign that says Really Love Something and colorful tape art on the side of the building.

Lincoln Bowl in the Lincoln District

Lincoln Bowl by Gexydaf

Lincoln Bowl is located at 3828 South Yakima Avenue, Tacoma, WA. I’ve read that it no longer functions as a bowling alley, but instead is being used as warehouse space.  It does however still have the great sign.

Update: 12/12 The building and the great sign are gone! Dear husband tells me that it will be a new Asian grocery store.

Time to Stop U Betcha – 43rd Street Pub

Originally uploaded by Gexydaf

Today was a rainy day that got away from me before night fell. In the darkness, I found the 43rd Street Pub and loved the neon. No, I didn’t go in! Just took the photo. This is a neighborhood bar and it is my understanding that it has new owners. In any case, it has recently been fixed up and cleaned up. The great neon sign says “Time to stop, U Betcha Pub” and it also has a clock.
