The Furniture Series

Originally uploaded by Gexydaf

Today’s new place of the day was the School of the Art’s Theater in the Ted Brown Building. We saw the Furniture Series and it was excellent. I have to confess that I just didn’t get a good photo while I was there and it was in appropriate to photograph the performance, so I took a photo of the program cover afterward.

For a laugh, go to Tacoma Comedy Club

On Friday night I joined my friends at the Tacoma Comedy Club. We had already eaten earlier, so I can’t speak to the food, but the comedy was great. The main act was Sharon Lacey, who was a middle school teacher before she became a comedian.

Theatre on the Square

Today 9/14/10 I stopped at Tacoma’s Theatre on the Square on my way home from work. This theater is part of the Broadway Center group of theaters including the Pantages and the Rialto. This building had previously housed the Tacoma Actor’s Guild.

Jesus 4 Less

This space on Broadway is being used as a set for an indie film called Jesus 4 Less by local filmmaker Sarah Mangum of Aroma Productions. The interior represents a Christian bookstore that in the movie is being run by two atheists.

The space is being used as part of the Spaceworks project that puts temporary art in vacant Tacoma spaces. Check out their website for more art installations.

Today’s new place of the day is the Rialto Theater, where the family went to see George Winston. What an amazing musician that man is! The Rialto was built in 1918 and is a jewel box of a theater.  For more on the theater’s history, look here http://www.broadwaycenter.org/about/history.asp

This photo was taken well before the performance when the audience was still feeding in. The man at the piano is the piano tuner.  9/10/10
