Today’s new place of the day is Bates Technical College in Tacoma and the photo is of their very cool lighting fixture that shows different careers in silhouette. I stopped at Bates to try their restaurant where the food is prepared by the culinary arts students.

Breakfast is served Monday-Thursday, 8:30-10:00 a.m. lunch is served Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

University of Washington Tacoma

Happy Monday 9/13/10! Today I pulled into the University of Washington Tacoma, which is in Tacoma’s historic warehouse district. It’s an older photo, but today’s check in and new place of the day.

This link provides a great deal of information about the historic buildings in this district that houses the University of Washington, Tacoma’s School of the Arts, private businesses, a courthouse and museums (art, history, glass).

Jesus 4 Less

This space on Broadway is being used as a set for an indie film called Jesus 4 Less by local filmmaker Sarah Mangum of Aroma Productions. The interior represents a Christian bookstore that in the movie is being run by two atheists.

The space is being used as part of the Spaceworks project that puts temporary art in vacant Tacoma spaces. Check out their website for more art installations.
