South Tacoma Farmer’s Market

It is farmer’s market season and there is one available for most days of the week. Sunday’s market is the South Tacoma Farmer’s Market, the newest Tacoma market and it is located on the corner of Washington Avenue and South 56th in the Heritage Bank Parking Lot. It is a bustling market, with produce, flower’s, informational booths and art & crafts goods. I especially enjoyed the musicians playing.

Chickens are Beautiful!

Saturday we happily went on the Urban Chicken Coop Tour, organized by Garden Sphere in the Proctor District.  I’m considering the tour one large place!  We managed 8 or the 9 stops on the Tacoma tour and were so impressed with the graciousness, knowledge and openness of the owners and the good looks of the urban chickens!  While we don’t qualify for chickens ourselves because of our two terriers, I can certainly see the appeal.

Yakima Avenue Garden, a community garden

Tacoma is lucky that it has so many community gardens. Today I stopped to take a photo of the Yakima Avenue Garden on Yakima Avenue, just north of South 48th Street. The garden has 19 raised beds, most of which are full of veggies.

It is finally farmer’s market season and today I stopped at the Sixth Avenue Farmer’s Market at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Pine Street. It is a lovely little market, with enough of everything — produce, flower’s, informational booths and art & crafts goods. I look forward to visiting it again soon!

Garden Sphere, Tacoma’s Organic Gardening Store

Garden Sphere by Gexydaf

I’ve been meaning to stop at the Garden Sphere for ages and today I finally did! What a lovely welcoming place. As I wandered around one of the workers offered to help me and I mentioned that it was my first time there. She said they change out stock every couple of weeks, so there is usually something new to see and that if I wanted something they didn’t have, they’d get it for me. Wow. That’s nice.

While there I purchased a lavender plant, something with a purple flower, a package of sweet peas and a candle. I’m sure I’ll be back for more.

I think my favorite part was the chicks. There were three sizes of them and they were all darling! I could just sit and listen to their trilling, chirping noise for hours!

The HarvestFest was today and we went to two farms. The new place of the day 10/2/2010 is Moon Farm. What a delightful place! They gave us a farm tour on a golf cart and then they showed up their jam factory and gave us samples of delicious jams. We brought home 3 jars of it! We spent quality time with their lovely chickens and even got to feed them :).
