Tahoma Market

8546433625_66e1baa721The other day, dear daughter asked why we hadn’t stopped at Fife’s new grocery store, Tahoma Market at 6006 Pacific Highway East, Fife, WA 98424. Well today after the YWCA’s wonderful RAGS show I did stop in. It wasn’t what I expected. I thought it was a small specialty grocery store, but really it is a large convenience store with 24 traditional gas pumps, several electric vehicle charging stations, an extensive liquor selection, several types of brewed coffee and everything one might need for a quick pit-stop. It was extremely clean and service was polite.

Norman Bates Motel

The Norman Bates Motel at 4411 Pacific Highway East, Fife, Washington 98424 was demolished in 2012. The land is available for sale. I’m not finding much information about the motel or why it was named after the hotel in the famous Hitchcock movie, Psycho.  I’ve included photos from today and from April 2012, which the building was in place but behind a fence.

My family just recently watched Psycho in an effort to find a movie that isn’t a slasher flick, but actually scares my dear daughter. She enjoyed the movie, despite the fact it was in black and white, but wasn’t overly scared. Info about the movie can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psycho_%28film%29

Pick-Quick Drive In

Easter dinner was Pasta Primavera which we enjoyed with our dear vegetarian daughter, but earlier in the day dear husband and I wanted a little something for lunch. I was trying to think of a place that would be open, but not packed and not too expensive and then I remembered Pick-Quick Drive at 4306 Pacific Hwy E, Fife, WA 98424. Unfortunately for us, it was closed. But I did have a great opportunity to snap a couple of photos of this Fife institution. Pick-Quick was built in 1949 and is famous for its burgers and many flavored shakes. Seating is either in one’s car or at one of the many picnic tables. There are two Pick-Quick locations, this one and a much newer one in Auburn.

RAGS Wearable Art Sale & Show

Each year the YWCA has a benefit for their domestic violence prevention & intervention programs. This year it was at Larson’s Mercedes-Benz of Tacoma at 1701 Alexander Avenue in Fife. It was great.Their showroom was filled with more quality wearable art then I’ve ever seen in one place and it was an added bonus that it supports the YWCA’s excellent mission. I walked away with a lovely necklace and a pin for my friend. While I was there I checked out a new Mercedes-Benz (I can dream!).

What was funny is that when I came home I took the Fife exit onto I-5 and pulled in right behind my husband’s blue truck. Really, what are the chances?

Big Lemon

Wednesday’s new place is the City of Fife’s bright yellow ALCO C-415 Engine, which is housed adjacent to the Fife History Museum in the Dacca Park.  The engine is one of 26 sold and 4 still remaining.  Apparently they were considered “lemons” because of a design flaw. To read more, go to:

Yikes! Jack In The Box now has the calorie count

I try not to go to fast food restaurants very often, but I was taking a class today and only had an hour for lunch and there was travel time involved. So, Jack in the Box it is! Oh my, they are putting the number of calories next to each menu item! Yikes! So, I guess the bacon ultimate cheeseburger (920 calories), curly fries (280 calories) and a large mint oreo cookie shake (1,310 calories) are out!

I must say that Jack In The Box does have a pretty amusing website!

The one I went to is at 3402 E Pacific Hwy, Fife, WA 98424
