Sammy’s Pizza

13503137725_d87afd4da1_bDear husband and I were in search of lunch when we noticed Sammy’s Pizza at 1308 North ‘I’ Street, Tacoma. The restaurant had previously been under the Garlic Jim’s franchise and on Sixth Avenue, but now it is independent. The original intent was to have a liquor license and there is even a bar in place, but proximity to the local elementary school is problematic and as of our visit, beer and wine were not available. The restaurant is named after the owner’s dog. We had the special, which was a large meatball pizza and it was tasty.

Jersey Mike’s Subs

13417136085_4243f20746_bJersey Mike’s Subs has newly opened at 3555 Market Place, Suite 4, University Place, WA 98466. I hadn’t heard of the chain before, despite the fact they have over 1,300 locations! The first Jersey Mike’s was in Point Pleasant, NJ in the 1970s not too far from where I had my annual Jersey Shore summer family vacation. Anyway this location is a good new place for dear husband and I to pick up a cheese steak or a sub. There are also Jersey Mike’s in Gig Harbor and Puyallup.

Pho Than Brothers, Tacoma

13396084555_f8be465b7c_b(1)Before my book group on Monday, I ate at Pho Than Brothers at 1712 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98402. This chain of restaurants got its start in 1996 in North Seattle. There are 18 locations, all in the Puget Sound area. Dinner includes delicious pho and included a cream puff. I’m sure this location serves students from both Tacoma’s School of the Arts, University of Washington Tacoma and visitors to the near by history, arts and glass museums.

Jamba Juice, Tacoma

13280448213_2168ef5d70_bJamba Juice in the Tacoma Mall is really pretty good and relatively healthy. Dear daughter and I stopped this afternoon. She had a strawberry banana drink and I had the Aloha Pineapple drink. It was our first time to visit any Jamba Juice, but apparently there are another 800+ locations we could investigate in 26 states. The chain began in 1990 and has gone through several changes over the years.

Lobster Shop at Dash Point

lobster shopThe Lobster Shop at 6912 Soundview Dr NE, Tacoma, WA 98422 will be closing on March 15, 2014. It’s a little out of the way for my family, but still we dined there a few times and always enjoyed it. The site was originally native land and had been the Dash Point Grocery. In 1977 it became the Lobster Shop.

Coffee Cove

13024924144_36d5e7cb69_cCoffee Cove is a coffee kiosk at 4918 Center St, Tacoma, WA 98409. I was coming home in the pouring rain after a Saturday conference and desperately wanted something warm to drink. I skipped the nearby Starbucks and tried out the independent. My decaf Americano was really tasty and the service was cheerful and quick.

Memos Mexican Food Restaurant

13004390175_47d9edb932_hMemos Mexican Food Restaurant at 1703 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA 98405 is the newest Memos location. Previously it had been It’s Great to Me and they have moved across the street. Dear husband and I shared a fish taco and a Washington Burrito (steak, cheese, salsa and potato). It was more food than we could eat and really tasty. With a churro dessert, the bill came to just over $10. Their menu is here.

Europa Bistro

I had a quick lunch at European Bistro at 2515 North Proctor in Tacoma and it was delicious. I was in a rush and picked what I assumed was the quickest thing available, the lentil soup. It was a full bowl and coupled with the warm bread made an exceptional meal, especially considering it was less than $4! I’m eager to go back when I have a little more time and try some other items on their menu. It all looks good. There website is here.

Happiness is around the next corner, Wendy’s Vietnamese

HappinessHappiness is around the next corner, wealth down the street” is what my fortune cookie said at Wendy’s Vietnamese at 5015 Tacoma Mall Boulevard, Tacoma. We met our dear friend at Wendy’s for a tasty dinner and conversation. This is Wendy’s second location, with the first being in Freighthouse Square. Their food is consistently delicious.

B Sharp Coffee House, Tacoma

11786807823_ff83d5f714_bB Sharp Coffeehouse at 706 Opera Alley is delightful. They offer coffee, lunch fare, beer and wine, as well as music many evenings. The space has a wonderful history as being the original location of the News Tribune. It is lower level space with no natural light except at the very front, but that just adds to its cozy ambiance, I was particularly charmed by the large open area leading to the restrooms. There is a mural of dogs playing poker made me smile, especially since the cairn on the right (cheating) looks much like one of our dogs. B Sharp’s has a website and a Facebook Page.
