Diamond Jubilee in St. Jame’s Park

The Queen is having her Diamond Jubilee this year, marking 60 years on the throne. To honor the occasion, this topiary was created to replicate in flowers the queen’s crown during her coronation. There is a nice write up of it here http://www.jannaludlow.co.uk/My_Brush_With/Jubilee_2012.html

The Greenhouse at Lincoln Center

On Sunday we stopped at the plant sale at Tacoma’s Lincoln Center’s Greenhouse at 3600 South G Street. It was the last day of the sale, but there was still a good selection and we came away with some lovely flowers and a couple of herbs. They money raised goes back into the program.

Watson’s Nursery

Watson’s Nursery at 6211 Pioneer Way E., Puyallup, WA 98371 is a soothing place and its it is easy to while away a couple of hours. I joined my friends for lunch at their Flower Pot restaurant and then two of us took advantage of their special ($9 for 4 fuchsia starts planted in our own pot)

Amazing Dahlias at Connells

For years now dear daughter and I try to visit Connell’s Dahlia Farm (10616 Waller Road E. Tacoma, WA 98446. Phone: 253-531-0292) around the time of the Western Washington State Fair. They have acres of dahlias in lovely colors and various sizes and shapes.  For only $6.00 we purchased a bouquet  of the flowers to brighten our home during the predicted stormy days ahead. Per their website, the Connell Family has been growing dahlias since 1966 and has won many awards because of their spectacular flowers!

Fountain on Broadway & 11th

There is a concrete fountain on the corner of Broadway and South 11th Street in Downtown Tacoma. I really like how the fountain is laid out so that it can be climbed. The fountain use to have a salmon (the Peace Salmon) as part of it, but it isn’t there anymore.

Garden Sphere, Tacoma’s Organic Gardening Store

Garden Sphere by Gexydaf

I’ve been meaning to stop at the Garden Sphere for ages and today I finally did! What a lovely welcoming place. As I wandered around one of the workers offered to help me and I mentioned that it was my first time there. She said they change out stock every couple of weeks, so there is usually something new to see and that if I wanted something they didn’t have, they’d get it for me. Wow. That’s nice.

While there I purchased a lavender plant, something with a purple flower, a package of sweet peas and a candle. I’m sure I’ll be back for more.

I think my favorite part was the chicks. There were three sizes of them and they were all darling! I could just sit and listen to their trilling, chirping noise for hours!

Tacoma Boys in Puyallup

IMG_0180_edited-1 by Gexydaf

I’ve been wanting to see the newest Tacoma Boys, the one in the South Hill portion of Puyallup. It is much like its sister stores, the one on 6th Avenue in Tacoma and the other on Lakewood Drive in Lakewood. As always, they have excellent produce, a lovely assortment of specialty items and friendly staff.

I made a quick stop at Dave’s Meats & Produce just as they were closing up today and was impressed with what I saw. Fresh produce, wonderful looking meat and lovely flowers. I’ll be back!

Driving around today deciding on my new place of the day I finally saw my first sign of Spring! Yes! There is hope! Here in the Republic Parking Northwest Lot ($2/hour, $8/all day) there were several cherry trees blooming their cheery pink blooms. I took a couple of shots with my regular camera, as well as with the Hipstamatic app on my phone http://hipstamaticapp.com/

This particular parking lot is located at 1517 Fawcett Avenue, Tacoma, which is the Southeast corner of Fawcett Avenue and South 15th Street.
