Not Going Back to Ross

We need a pair of cute rainboats!  We went to Famous Footwear, but they only had one pair that suited style wise and they didn’t fit well.  The nice barista at Starbucks had suggested that we try Ross Dress for Less.  So, we did.  And we remembered that we don’t like Ross!  It’s too big and open and the lines are too long.  They also didn’t have the cute rainboots we longed for, so tomorrow it’s off to Target!  Wish us luck 🙂

Home Depot for all your toilet needs

Sometimes it’s just about the practical. Our toilet handle fell off (cheap, plastic thing that it was), so off I went to Home Depot where they have an amazing array of toilet fixing supplies. I went all out and purchased the metal replacement handle at almost twice as much — $9!

I did have to smile at two auto decorations that I saw on the way home. The one below shows two hand prints on an older, well traveled van that says “push here”. The other, on a small, older truck of said “Nice truck, sorry about the size of your penis”!

A place for one’s thoughts @ Office Depot

Not my most exciting adventure, but today’s new place of the day is Office Depot. It made me think of that Dilbert book, Build a Better Life by Stealing Office Supplies. 🙂 Hey! Today is 10-10-10 and that’s kind of cool!

Jo-Anns for Crafting & Art Needs

My dear daughter informed me that she needed oil pastels desperately and we went to Jo-Anns in Tacoma to have our craft needs met. I sent said daughter off with my phone/camera to snap a couple of photos while I waited in line to check out. This is the photo we both liked the best. 🙂

There are 29 Jo-Anns in Washington State and I guess that Spokane is the craftiest city because they have three!

Paper Zone

Today I ran into the Paper Zone in Tacoma Central Shopping Center off of Union and South 23rd. There is just something so inspiring about all those stamps, art paper and crafts! There are six Paper Zone locations in Washington State and three more in Oregon.

General information about the stores can be found here

And their blog, with some fun craft ideas, is located here

Update: 5.6.2011  I’ve heard that the Tacoma Paper Zone is closing the door at the end of May 2011.  Makes me sad.

Safeway on Pearl

I seem to be making the rounds of Tacoma’s grocery stores with today’s being the Safeway on Pearl and North 26th Street. Even though the weather had warmed into the mid-70s, the season and decoration says autumn. This isn’t the fanciest Safeway in town, that title is held by the one in the Proctor District, but it’s pretty darn nice.

Safeway Protor District

On 8/16/2010 I stopped at the Proctor Safeway on the way home from a meeting. The store has recently had a complete renovation and is now one of the nicest grocery stores in town. No doubt the renovation was at least partially inspired by the neighboring Metropolitan Market. The good points are nice employees, great produce & selection of products, a lovely store and an inside/outside fireplace. The downsides are the parking, which is somewhat limited (especially during busy times) and the store isn’t very large.

Albertsons

Today I went to Albertsons at the corner of Pacific Avenue and South 38th Street instead of my usual grocery store. On the plus side, the employees were all very pleasant and helpful. On the downside I don’t like to check myself out, the isles were over crowded because they contained sales carts and there were some rather strange (and not in a good way) folks in the parking lot. I don’t see myself going back anytime soon. 9/9/10
