Fred Meyer Market Place

Yesterday I ran into Fred Meyers Market Place at ., Tacoma. It was a quick stop brought on by the need for some allergy eye drops. Fred Meyers Market Place is a nice clean, well stocked store.  I’ve always thought it was interesting that there is a more traditional Fred Meyers right down the street at 4504  19th Street.

Moon over QFC

I went to a late Holiday Party last Friday and dashed into the QFC at 4101 49th Avenue Northeast
Tacoma (Brown’s Point) for a goodie to bring. They really have a great bakery. I picked the yellow cake on the bottom row, third from the left and it was as good as it looked! This appears to be the only QFC in Tacoma, with other locations including Gig Harbor and Parkland. The chain is headquartered in Bellevue, WA and has about 75 stores in the Puget Sound area. Kroger required the chain in 1998, though QFC has maintained its own identity.

Chopper’s Holistic Food

I had a hair appointment today and right next door was Chopper’s Holistic Pet Food at 612 Regents Blvd., Fircrest, WA.  It has an entirely different feel from a large box pet store.  The store is indeed mostly pet food and high quality pet food at that. The rest of the stock is treats, toys, clothes and accessories. The woman who helped me was pleasant and knowledgeable and even gave me some samples :D.

The Tempest Lounge

After work, I meant some wonderful friends at the Tempest Lounge at 913 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way in Tacoma.  The food was delicious, the service was spot on, the atmosphere was retro and the company was grand 😀

On 9/11/12 The owner of the Tempest announced that she is closing the bar.

Vien Dong in Tacoma’s Lincoln District

Wow! Vien Dong at 3801 Yakima Avenue in Tacoma’s Lincoln District has some tasty Vietnamese food and so reasonably priced. I was delighted (delighted, I tell you!) to meet a dear friend here for the first time. We both had the #11 (pho) with a fresh spring roll. It was the best pho I’d ever had and there was so very much of it that I had enough for lunch today. It says a lot for a restaurant when it is still very busy at 2 in the afternoon. The restaurant itself isn’t fancy, but the food makes it worth the trip.

Taqueria El Antojo

In the middle of a busy week we stopped at Taqueria El Antojo for some take out. The food is consistently tasty, the service cheerful and fast and the seating area clean.

Affairs Cafe & Bakery

Today the ladies and I lunched at Affairs Cafe & Bakery and listened to a great program about the Broadway Center. I’ve been coming to Affairs on occasion for years and remember when they had a fire in October 2000 that closed them for some time. They are justly known for their truffles, cheesecakes, catering and delicious breakfasts and lunches.

Oh, and I also included a photo of a cool dinosaur that we discovered today!

Flying Boots Restaurant & Spur Room

Flying Boots Cafe and Spur Room, so tonight I stopped to take a photo and consider it as my new place of the day. Tacoma Public Library shows the Flying Boots Cafe opening in 1930 and the new cafe opening in 1955 after remodeling. The bar part of the restaurant is called the Spur Room, and yes they have Karaoke. At night the neon wings on the boot turn on and off.
