Dolce Si at Point Ruston

image Dolce Si Bakery and Gelateria  in the Point Ruston Complex opened in November 2015 and I’ve been itching to go visit.  I finally got there and altogether it was a good experience. The space is charming and the counter person was delightful. I got my pastries to go and enjoyed them at home.  It was very busy while I was there and good for them! My only tiny wondering is why they didn’t have a pitcher of 1/2 and 1/2 for customers to doctor their to-go coffee. Instead they had flavored coffee creamers, which to me didn’t fit with the otherwise classy feeling of the place.  I’m sure Ill be back to checkout additional pastries and some of the house made Gelato.  The local newspaper, the News Tribune recently said that Dolce Si was one of the best restaurants to open in 2015.

More information can be found here.

Right near by Dolce Si I would some darling otter sculptures. The single one is right outside the cafe and the mother/child is in the traffic circle.

Carmine’s Italian Restaurant

8667746618_4bae083634_bOn Friday night I found myself in Kennewick looking for a restaurant. My friend and I opted for Carmines at 525 West 1st Avenue. It appealed to us because of its unusual presentation, an Italian restaurant in an old house that offers one or two dishes a night. The mission of the restaurant is to recreate the family environment that the owners experienced with they lived in New Jersey and were surrounded by relatives. Friday night was spaghetti & meatballs or shrimp over linguini.  My friend and I ordered one of each and shared. Before hand there is a salad and bread (included) and afterward a choice of dessert (extra). I had the amazingly delicious amaretto bread pudding and my friend opted for ice box cake.  Altogether a lovely evening with tasty food, great service and excellent conversation. The Facebook page for the restaurant is here.

Adriatic Grill

We had a lovely luncheon today at the Adriatic Grill at 4201 South Steele Street. I must have been having a good time because I forgot to take a good shot of the interior! But here is a photo of the table decorations and below a shot of the entrance that my daughter took out the car window! I remember when the space was occupied by one of Cucina Cucina’s twelve restaurant. The chain only has one remaining location in Issaquah.

Casa Mia

Today our family was celebrating and we decided to try a new to us restaurant, Casa Mia Italian Restaurant at 7304 Lakewood Drive, Suite 1, Lakewood, WA 98499. We’ve been looking for a local Italian restaurant that is more than a pizza place, but won’t break the budget. Casa Mia was just what we wanted. We had Rosemary Chicken Ravioli, Manacotti and a submarine sandwich. All three were delicious and the service was fast and friendly. I’ll have to try a pizza sometime soon. The chicken pizza with three cheeses looks particularly tempting!

Casa Mia Italian Restaurant is a chain of eight (Lakewood, Yelm, Olympia, Hoquiam, Kennewick, Lacey, Puyallup and Richland). The first of them opened in 1952 in Hoquiam.

New Place of the Day, 8/22 – 8/27 (recap)

http://foursquare.com/

As of 8/22/10 I’ve checked in 267 times.  I’ve travelled in five states (WA, TX, CA, MT, ID) and two provinces (NB & AB).  Today’s new place (which I have been to before, but it’s my first checkin) was ever wonderful Anthony’s at Point Defiance Park for our wedding anniversary dinner with dear daughter.

Update: And here is a new photo of Anthony’s

Today, 8/23/10, My husband needed a tire put on his boat, ummmm I mean car. He replaced three of the tires himself, but the 4th one was really stuck! Since I didn’t work today, I said I’d take it. So off I went to Courtesy Auto Service and Tire of Tacoma near the Tacoma Mall. I always just thought it was called Goodyear, but I guess not. The customer service was polite and the work was done quickly. They charged $15, which seemed alright to me, but my husband thought it should have been less.

A favorite restaurant for my daughter and I has been Panera’s Bread http://www.panerabread.com/.  We go there when we want something special, but not too expensive.  I flutter all over the menu, but my daughter almost always gets the broccoli cheese soup in a bread bowl.  Then, more often than not, we wander over to Barnes & Noble to check out the new books.  So, Panera’s Bread in Lakewood was our new place for 8/24/2010.

While we were out and about, we stopped at Safeway (not for the first time) and I took this picture.  The combination of Shape magazine and Ding Dongs was amusing!

On 8/25 we meant with a financial adviser (great guy!) at Forza and then afterwards walked over to Joeseppis Italian Ristoranti.  We shared the Marsala Chicken and still took 1/2 of it home as leftovers!

Thursday I had a special treat because my friend had a get together at her beach cabin.  We went down a very steep trail to get there.  It was just just perfect, good weather, good friends, good food and a wonderful view!  The the pictures for 8/26 show the beach!  FourSquare let me check in here under “the Beach Cabin”.  I can only assume that I was at the same beach cabin that they were thinking of!  I’m sure that’s right. 😀

On 8/27 we went out to a movie (it was awful) and afterwards we needed a bite to eat.  But it was way too much effort to go to a restaurant and I still needed my new checkin for the day.  So off we went to the recently remodeled Stadium Thriftway.  It’s one of my favorite local grocery stores with a great selection of produce and a great deli/premade section.
