Red Hot

9737094663_c46aac4bd8_bRed Hot at 2914 Sixth Avenue, Tacoma is relatively small bar that specialized in locally crafted beer and hot dogs. I had the 6th Ave Strut which is a hot dog with cream cheese, fresh chopped onions, tomatoes. It was delicious! Really, good food and company, it was a great way to start the weekend!

Gray Lumber Company, Logistics Center

9691572096_5d7bdf1b8c_bGray Lumber Company has a logistics center at 3902 South ‘M’ Street in Tacoma. Some version of this facility has been in place since 1903. Grays is Tacoma’s oldest lumber yard. They really have an interesting history, important to Tacoma. It can be found on their website.

Grocery Outlet Bargain Market

9684492486_cbdeb411ee_bGrocery Outlet is a regional chain located in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Idaho and Nevada. The Tacoma Grocery Outlet is located at 6425 6th Avenue. It’s been a while since I’d been in and I was pleasantly surprised to see that they’ve expanded and that it was extra clean. The lady that checked me out was a peach too. They have a facebook page!

The Hug Farm – Grow Food

9666322457_d4c3e90cedDriving around Tacoma I found The Farm by Hug, which I of course read as the Hug Farm. I loved the idea of growing hugs! And the actuality of the garden was almost as good. It is a community garden sponsored by the Hilltop Urban Gardens. Their mission is “to develop systems for food sovereignty and create racial and economic justice”. To learn more, go to their website.

The Wedding Bell on my anniversary

9571001337_734420a8e3_o(1)It is my wedding anniversary, so I was thinking about weddings. And thought brought me to The Wedding Bell at 2914 6th Avenue, Tacoma. Every time I drive eastbound on 6th Avenue, I admire the lovely dresses in their windows. My photos don’t do them justice. To see many of the beautiful dresses, go here. I read in the local paper that The Wedding Bell will be relocating nearby in the near future.

Getting Ready for School

9560862998_0728a8cd3e_h(1)There are all the school buses just waiting for the first day of school 🙂 This photo was  in the Nalley Valley part of town at the southwest corner of South Tacoma Way and Sprague Avenue. I could only safely capture some of the buses, but the image below (thank you Google Earth!) shows that there are many more buses. I think there is a special star in heaven for school bus drivers!

Capture

I-705

9535537416_f4f6c19277_bIt was a lovely day and I strolled the area near Tacoma’s Glass Museum and stopped to capture I-705. I was talking to my dear husband and I said the highway wasn’t built when we first moved here and he said it was. We were both right. I moved here at the end of 1989 and he moved here in the spring of 1990 because he stayed in Texas to sell our house there. The road opened between our two moves.

Tacoma’s School of the Arts

9466911043_151f2c24a6_c(1)So it seemed appropriate on my dear daughter’s last full day with us for a while to go visit her old school to pick up her most excellent high school transcripts. School of the Arts (SOTA) has both administrative space and classrooms in the old Post Office.
