Memos Mexican Food Restaurant at 1703 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA 98405 is the newest Memos location. Previously it had been It’s Great to Me and they have moved across the street. Dear husband and I shared a fish taco and a Washington Burrito (steak, cheese, salsa and potato). It was more food than we could eat and really tasty. With a churro dessert, the bill came to just over $10. Their menu is here.
I was driving around this morning in search of a cup of Joe when I went past Tacoma’s Bartending Academy at 1036 South Sprague Avenue, Tacoma. I like the way the light reflects on the wet street. The architect for the 1907 building was C.E. Heath. It was originally built as a store (don’t know what type) and for sometime in the 1940s it was the Thoralf Hagen Barber Shop and now it is the Bartending Academy.
This once splendid trailer is the last man standing in an ex-trailer park north of Highway 512 and East of South Tacoma Way. I could still see the individual pads where the mobile homes once sit and my husband pointed out where each unit’s power was. And there are a couple of rundown buildings that I suspect were the park’s office and perhaps a laundry facility. I wonder why it was deserted and dear husband opined that maybe it was cleared away for redevelopment and then the market collapsed. Perhaps.
There is a swirling, bold mural on the building at 2502 Sixth Avenue. The building had previously housed Sixth Avenue Photography, but they went out of business in February 2014.
A quick stop today at Famous Footwear at Tacoma Central Shopping Center (the Target Center) to check out cute discounted boots, which were either the wrong size or the wrong color. You know what I’m looking forward to? Cute spring sandals! Hopefully soon!
Sparky the Salmon by Susan Carles is in front of the fire station at 2515 North Proctor, Tacoma, WA.
There is a great mural wrapped around the lot of Last Stop Computers, 3101 Sixth Avenue. It features Mt. Rainer. There is also one of those dear carved bears welcoming visitors.
Jennie Reed Elementary at 1802 South 36th Street, Tacoma, WA opened in 1951 and was named after Jennie M. Reed who was know for a testing program she developed in the 1920s and 1930s. Their mascot is the jaguar.
While others were watching the Superbowl, I went out to give my new camera a spin. It was kind of eerie being out with almost everyone watching the game. Though there were plenty of police and taxis. I wandered through Five Mile Drive in Pt. Defiance and took a shot of Dalco Passage, thinking that I would find a fascinating history of Dalco, but no such luck. All I can find is that Dalco Passage is a tidal strait in the Puget Sound, located between the southern end of Vashon Island and Tacoma. Below are a couple of more shots including the sweet beggar of a raccoon (which I didn’t feed). And go Seahawks!
You have to admire somebody who would paint his fence in Seahawks colors! This house is located on the corner of South ‘M’ Street and South 62nd. If you look close you can see one of the owner’s two dobermans barking at me! Go hawks!
