LA Fitness

I’d like to write that I went into LA Fitness at 5915 Sixth Avenue and had a vigorous workout, but the truth of the matter is that I snapped the photo while waiting for my dear husband’s birthday pizza to be ready for pick up! But it looks like a very nice health club! 😀

Starbucks in Federal Way

So I was going to stop in the Port of Tacoma and take a great photo of an industrial building. But it was raining and raining hard. So this fair weather photographer stopped at the Starbucks at 34024 Hoyt Road SW, Federal Way instead. My FourSquare check in phone program declared that I had checked into 40 different coffee places! Really? I should be jumpier 😀

I think the Starbucks’ Create Jobs for USA campaign is interesting. Sounds like a good idea to me!

Apollo’s Pizza and Pasta

And ever since I’ve been wanting to go try it! Today was the day. Dear husband and I went for the lunch special ($6.99 for two slices of pizza and either soup or salad). The pizza was cheese with a choice of two toppings. I had mushrooms and ricotta cheese and dear husband had mushrooms and hamburger. He had their famous African peanut chicken soup, which was very tasty and I had the salad which was OK.

Prosser Pianos & Organs

Pianos, a set on Flickr.

Dear daughter thought it would be fun to stop at the piano store. No, she doesn’t play. I had lessons when I was little and the lady with the mean duck gave me lessons for a couple of years. We stopped at Prosser Pianos & Organs at 5849 Tacoma Mall Blvd, Tacoma, WA 98409.

I guess that I haven’t actually thought about pianos much in years. Some of the new ones can interact with computer programs and will actually teach you how to play. The pianos and organs were amazingly lovely. They ranged in price from about $2,000 to $70,000. And the people in the showroom were happy to show us around and explain the various pianos.

There are three Processer locations, this one and two in Seattle. Their website is here http://www.prosserpiano.com/Home.aspx

Trinity Presbyterian Church

Tacoma has some wonderful, historic church buildings and the Trinity Presbyterian Church at 1615 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA 98405 is one of the best. It is a massive, brick structure that was constructed in 1922 and was originally known as the First United Presbyterian Church.

Auburn Mountain View High School

I had a meeting today at Auburn Mountainview High School 28900 124th Ave SE Auburn, WA 98092. It really does have a lovely view of Mr. Rainier. Itis a lovely, newer school that is well maintained. There are 1,450 students.

We Love Meconi’s

Meconi Italian Subs is our favorite chain of sandwich places. There are three of them (Olympia, Tumwater and Lacey). Today dear husband and I went to the Merconi’s at 111 Tumwater Blvd. SE in Tumwater. We picked up three full, delicious hoggies — turkey (his), roast beef (mine) and veggie (the teens) — and brought them home to dear daughter.

For more info, here is Meconi’s website and facebook page.

The Condiments at Skippers

My daughter and I use to stop at the Skippers at 4710 Pacific Avenue every other week just before we went to Brownies and later Girl Scouts. And then she grow out of Girl Scouts and somebody drove their car into Skippers (luckily nobody was in that booth!) and it had to close for a while. And then in 2997 it went out of business. And then in September 2009 it reopened. The service is friendly and fast.

Update: May 2016. I see that it has again closed and has fencing around the property line. Sad.

Food for Fines

This delightful poster was discovered at the University of Puget Sound (UPS) Student Center. I love the idea of trading cans for the local food bank against library fines. I was at the student center to meet some friends for dinner. What a great deal dinner is there! I had a freshly grilled hamburger with curly fries and a soda for about $6.00.
