Pho PQ

Dear daughter told me that she had to eat veggie fried rice from Pho PQ at 10706 Bridgeport Way in Lakewood. She had been there with her friend and declared it delicious. So I ordered dinner to go and it was indeed delicious and there is plenty for lunch tomorrow. I told the counter guy who ran me up that it was my first time there and he smiled and said, see you tomorrow! I do so like an optimist!

Five Guys has the best soda machine!

Five Guys at 5605 Lakewood Towne Center Blvd., Lakewood, WA 98499 has an amazing soda machine. You push on your choice of Coke Product and there are 22 choices. I picked diet, caffeine free Coke. Then a second screen appears with seven more choices: cherry, vanilla, lime, orange, raspberry, cherry vanilla or plain. I tried cherry and orange (not together) and really they were pretty good.

Five Guys is a hamburger chain that originated out of Washington D.C. and currently has 900 stores. There are two locations in Pierce Co., this one and one in Puyallup. Their website (http://www.fiveguys.com/) says there are over 250,000 ways to order a burger here!  The restaurant was packed when I got there at around 4. There must have been 30 people ahead of me in line. But the line moved quickly and my order came up in no time. Or maybe the time just passed quickly since I was fascinated with the soda machine 🙂 The interior was a cheerful red and white and free peanuts were available

Medi’s for Valentine’s Pizza

Medi’s at 2710 6th Avenue was a great choice for a Valentine’s meal. We somehow missed lunch, so went at the early time of 4. We ordered their special, a large multi-cheese pizza for $13 and a cheesesteak. It was way more food then we could eat, so we brought some pizza home to dear daughter and there is still enough for lunch tomorrow.  Medi’s opened in September based on how busy it was, they are doing well. I was glad to see it was a family restaurant because I plan to take my dear daughter to lunch here sometime.

This parcel of land was originally the site of a cottage built in 1889. In 1925 the current building was constructed and occupied by C.S. Enger Hardware Co. Sluggo Music opened on Valentine’s day 1979 and was there until 2011. Medi’s Pizza has the Sluggo Music sign hanging up in tribute.

We Love Meconi’s

Meconi Italian Subs is our favorite chain of sandwich places. There are three of them (Olympia, Tumwater and Lacey). Today dear husband and I went to the Merconi’s at 111 Tumwater Blvd. SE in Tumwater. We picked up three full, delicious hoggies — turkey (his), roast beef (mine) and veggie (the teens) — and brought them home to dear daughter.

For more info, here is Meconi’s website and facebook page.

The Condiments at Skippers

My daughter and I use to stop at the Skippers at 4710 Pacific Avenue every other week just before we went to Brownies and later Girl Scouts. And then she grow out of Girl Scouts and somebody drove their car into Skippers (luckily nobody was in that booth!) and it had to close for a while. And then in 2997 it went out of business. And then in September 2009 it reopened. The service is friendly and fast.

Update: May 2016. I see that it has again closed and has fencing around the property line. Sad.

McDonalds in the Evening Light

According to Wikipedia, McDonald’s is “the world’s largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants, serving around 64 million customers daily in 119 countries”.  Today I stopped to snap a photo of the McDonald’s at 2203 North Pearl in Tacoma. We didn’t actually go inside, but admired the almost art like display created by the Big Toy.

Katie Downs is the 2011 Tournament of Pizza Champion

Katie Downs at 3211 Ruston Way has the best pizza in the Puget Sound. The Weekly Volcano’s 2011 Tournament of Pizza Champion had 64 competitors and Katie Downs came out on top

Now I hadn’t actually gone to Katie Downs for pizza, but while I was there my dear daughter called wanting me to stop for thai food. I talked her into wanting pizza instead and brought home a double cheese, pesto and fresh tomato pie. It was delicious!

Happy Dragon

I had a little time to stop for dinner and didn’t want fast food, but didn’t have the time or funds for extra nice.  And I’d been meaning to stop at Happy Dragon Chinese at 5104 Sixth Avenue, Tacoma.  It was an early dinner for me and I was their only customer, though a couple of folks came in for take out.  I ordered the curry chicken and it was good and plenty for two meals. The meal was served with white rice at no additional cost, which isn’t always the case now a days.

Flipping Out!

Flipping Out Burgers at 4008 S 12th St., Tacoma, WA 98405 has these amazing burgers! They are large, tasty and rather messy.  Dear husband and I stopped and had a regular cheeseburger with fries and a mushroom swiss burger for lunch. Neither of us finished.  My only regret is that I forgot about their sweet potato fries! Their food is good, their service is fine and their decor is cheerful, but simple. But really, we went for the burgers, not the decor. Also, they deliver in that darling little smart car!

Coldstone’s website states that with their ice creams and mix-ins, they can create over 11 million creations! The first Coldstone opened in 1988 in Tempe, Arizona.
