An early morning at Green Firs Village Shopping Center Parking Lot in University Place provided a photo of several birds in a tree. But it was more fun was I reversed it and added a frame.

Trader Joe’s at 1530 Black Lake Blvd SW, Olympia, WA 98502 is a typical Trader Joe’s with great produce, interesting products, a large selection of wine and free samples 🙂
Black Bear Yogurt for a French Press Coffee
I remember when there was one Black Bear Yogurt and now there are six with four opening soon. They are all in the Puget Sound area except for the one in Yakima. This Black Bear is located at 1901 South 72nd Street, Tacoma. I wasn’t particularly hungry, but I had a French Press coffee which was most delicious and kept me up half the night (my bad!). Their website is here.
Lewiston, ID
I only spent a night in Lewiston, ID and didn’t have much time to explore. I came into the city from Washington State and was surprised at just how steep the hill leading into town was. I especially wasn’t thrilled since it was very dark and I was tired. The city fronts on both the Snake and Clearwater Rivers. The city’s website is here.

Woodleigh Station, Australia’s Outback
Woodleigh Station is a working cattle ranch in Australia’s Out Back (Ravenshoe). We spent two delightful days there learning to use a bullwhip, visiting their history cabin and soaking in the history, wading in a stream, telling stories around the campfire and eatting wonderful food! http://woodleighstation.com.au/
The wallaby pictured above is named Pepsi and while she is wild, she often comes to visit and mooch.
Skyrail Rainforest
The Skyrail Rainforest Cable Way is an almost five mile one way trip. At both ends there are shops and services and in the middle there is an interpretative trail to explore. The highest station is 1,788 feet above sea level and the lowest point is 5 feet above sea level. It is part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. I found, but did not purchase, this jaunty fellow in a near by store. (see below) More information can be found here.
Boehm’s Candy
I was driving around Issaquah looking for something interesting and was pleasantly surprised at my choices — a root beer drive in, a restored vintage gas station, cute stores, etc. The day’s winner was Boehms Candy at 255 NE Gilman Blvd. Issaquah, WA 98027. The company began in Seattle’s Ravenna neighborhood in 1943 and in 1956 they moved to their current location. The store is located in the “Edelweiss Chalet”, the first Alpine chalet in the Northwest. In addition to the store and the candy manufacturing facility, there is a replica of a 12th century chapel near St. Moritz, a fountain, a statue of William Tell, a park area with a decorative fountain and an enthusiastic water fountain (water is life).

It occurs to me that I know nothing about William Tell except he has a theme song. I learned he was a folk hero of Switzerland. Looking over Wikipedia, I remembered that he is know for shooting an apple off his son’s head. The statue shows Tell and his son, Altdorf and is (I assume) a replica of the original statue by Richard Kissling in 1895.
USS Triton Submarine Memorial Park
In 1960 my dad was part of the crew of the USS Triton, a Navy nuclear-powered submarine that was the first vessel to circumnavigate the world submerged. The trip, which followed the first circumnavigation of Ferdinand Magellan, began on February 25, 1960 under the command of Captain Edward Beach. The voyage covered 26,723 nautical miles and took 60 days with an average speed of 21 mph).
On Sunday dear daughter and I stopped at the USS Triton Submarine Park in Richland, Washington. The purpose of the park is “to establish a permanent park in north Richland in recognition of all the decommissioned reactor cores off-loaded at the Port’s barge slip, transported and stored at the Hanford Site”. The park, which was dedicated November 10, 2011, features the conning tower of the Triton.
