Mattress Ranch at 8916 Lakewood Drive SW in Lakewood has a barnyard theme (in case you didn’t notice!). I hadn’t realized it was part of a chain with four locations in Alaska and six in Washington State. I have to say that I’m impressed that all of their mattresses are completely American made.
S&S Loan at 11453 Pacific Highway has long been abandon. When I pulled in to snap some photos, my daughter called it that creepy place and it does have a desolate vibe. The property is available for sale from Kidder Mathews with an asking price of $650,000. The value is in the land with the 7,000 square foot, 1964 building being a tear down. One of the best assets the property has is that it is across the street from the Sound Transit Station.
On Wednesday my group got together at the Lakewood YMCA (9715 Lakewood Drive SW) to talk about living off the grid. The Y was hopping! I arrive at a tad past 4 and parked in the hinterlands. I have to confuse that I didn’t get to see too much of the facility, just the Forza Coffee and the nice conference room. A little ways back I purchased a Living Social coupon for Classic Coffee at 7609 Custer Road in Lakewood. It was a buy a $20 coupon for $10 coupon and today I stopped to pick up fruit smoothies for dear daughter and me.
The lovely Lake Steilacoom contains and area of 53 acres and is entirely within the city limits of Lakewood, WA. It is a man made lake that was created at the site of a small pond in 1853. Per Wikipedia “The Nisqually Indians say this lake was possessed by an evil female monster known as Whe-atchee. Legends of the creature attacking people go back over a century.To this day, Nisqually refuse to fish or swim here.”
Sauro’s Cleanerama use to be located in downtown Tacoma, but at some point moved to 10523 Bridgeport Way SE, Lakewood, WA. It had a great building downtown and still has a great building! The students and staff of Clover Park High School in Lakewood, WA have created a reproduction of Arlington National Cemetery this Memorial Day weekend, as they have in other years. The photo above is actually from last year when I had my better camera on hand.

Just a quick stop today at Safeway in Lakewood (10223 Gravelly Lake Drive Southwest, Lakewood, WA) While there, I noticed that the Angry Bird’s Pig is now promoting pistachios. I’m still struggling to make the connection, but I think if we can get kids to eat nuts instead of sugar its a good thing. Five Guys at 5605 Lakewood Towne Center Blvd., Lakewood, WA 98499 has an amazing soda machine. You push on your choice of Coke Product and there are 22 choices. I picked diet, caffeine free Coke. Then a second screen appears with seven more choices: cherry, vanilla, lime, orange, raspberry, cherry vanilla or plain. I tried cherry and orange (not together) and really they were pretty good.
Five Guys is a hamburger chain that originated out of Washington D.C. and currently has 900 stores. There are two locations in Pierce Co., this one and one in Puyallup. Their website (http://www.fiveguys.com/) says there are over 250,000 ways to order a burger here! The restaurant was packed when I got there at around 4. There must have been 30 people ahead of me in line. But the line moved quickly and my order came up in no time. Or maybe the time just passed quickly since I was fascinated with the soda machine 🙂 The interior was a cheerful red and white and free peanuts were available
The German Pastry and Coffee Shop at 6108 Mt Tacoma Dr SW, Lakewood, WA 98499 is not the same thing as Hess Bakery and that confuses me. They both specialize in German Food, but have different strengths. Both of them are located in a brick building is known as European Square. Each of them has a sign on their door that says they are not affricated with the other. Well, OK. I’ll just go back and do Hess Bakery some other time.
The German Pastry and Coffee Shop has display cases and metal racks for tasty treats. I got two bags of cookies and two pieces of pastry, all for takeout. What I tasted at home was yummy. Maybe next time we’ll have lunch. I love the décor. There is one almost full wall mural of an alpine scene and many large jigsaw puzzles that have been framed.
