Gargoyle Bridge

9032286059_558bc90c59_b

Sunday dear husband and I went on the University Place Garden Tour and discovered a a gargoyle bridge at the end of Memory Lane West. It is a simple bridge over a ravine and along it to either side are gargoyles, one of which was shooting water out of his mouth. You have to look hard to see the gargoyles in the bridge photo, but they are there! The gargoyle artist also created a tranquil water scene.

The yard adjacent to the bridge had a miniature horse and a goat, as well as a chilled bag of carrots. They each got one from us 🙂

Trader Joes in University Place

I needed some things for a Secret Santa gift exchange and Trader Joe’s in Green Firs Village, University Place was the place to go. They do, after all, have the world’s greatest frozen food. I have often been to this Trader Joe’s and have never had a bad experience. I love their policy of providing a full refund if you don’t like a product.

Per Wikipedia, Trader Joe’s originated in 1958 as Pronto Market and in 1967 the name changed in Trader Joe’s and became more of a specialty grocery store with unusual products from around the world.

The Pet Cemetery

I was in my 20s when I read Stephen King’s Pet Cemetery and it scared me to death! Though I did better then my husband who tossed it across the room and refused to pick it up for about a month. So in my head Pet Cemetery’s are creepy places, appropriate for a Halloween New Place of the Day. But all in all the Pet Cemetery in the  New Tacoma Cemetery is lovely and peaceful. With umbrella in hand I walked through what I guess was the pet section, though I couldn’t find more then one grave. The photo with the graves is the traditional cemetery. The link for the cemetery is here http://www.newtacoma.com/fh/facilities/facilities.cfm?page=4&fh_id=12090

Forza in University Place

I hadn’t realized this Forza at 2700 Bridgeport way in University Place existed. It’s a typical, well done Forza with a small, private meeting room. There are 15 Forza locations, down from 23 locations in 2/2011.

Kobayashi Park

I had no idea that Kobayashi Park was there at 6420 Chambers Creek Road West in University Place. It is tucked away and not very clearly marked and we only found it by accident. But we’re glad that we found it! We walked the trails in both directions from the small parking lot. In one direction the path followed a small stream. The family was thrill to see a Pileated Woodpecker (see the photo below, but you have to look hard!) ! I don’t think that I’ve ever seen one before. The path in the other direction went past the house and followed a larger stream which called to me to jump right in! But I refrained.

The 4.82 acre site for Kobayashi Park in University Place was purchased on September 16, 2004. The site contains the confluence of Chambers and Leach Creeks, both salmon bearing streams. There is a 1964 house on the site which is vacant and not in great shape.
