Top Side Bar & Grill, Steilacoom

What an amazing view is to be had at the Topside Bar & Grill at 215 Wilkes Street  Steilacoom, WA 98388. I met some long time friends to unwind after a long work week and truly appreciated the lovely summer evening and the glorious sunset. We had some refreshments and solved the problems of the world and then walked down to the local park to enjoy the view further.

University Place Shari’s is gone

20120817-192502.jpgShari’s at 3902 Bridgeport Way, University Place 98466 became vacant in March 2012 when the company did not renew their lease. Apparently the site was going to be used as a bank, but now its future is in question and it remains vacant. An article on the closure can be found here: http://blog.thenewstribune.com/business/2012/03/21/sharis-restaurant-in-university-place-closes-plans-for-building-unclear/

Jay Berry’s in North Bend

If we are hungry when we visit North Bend, we usually eat at Jay Berry’s Pizza and Pasta at 456 Mt. Si Boulevard. The first time we went, years ago, we thought it was going to be just another pizza place in a strip mall. But each time we go (at least once a year for many years) we are impressed by the quality of the food and service. This time dear daughter and I shared a baked tortellini and we each had our own French Onion Soup.

Update: 4/2017 When I went to take myself out to an early dinner, I found that Jay Berry’s was gone and another restaurant was in its space. But I do see that their website is operational and links to their restaurant in Renton. Guess I’ll need to go there for some great pasta!

Pagliacci Pizza

I had a late meeting at the Starbucks on the Ave near the University of Washington in Seattle. Afterwards I stopped at one of my very favorite pizza places, Pagliaco Pizza. at 4529 University Way NE, Seattle. I love this restaurant because I can order a good size sliced and not an entire pie. They also have some great salads. I got a slice of margarita pizza and a vitamin water for just over $4. What a deal. Pigliaco has 22 locations. It would be great if they opened up a location in Tacoma!

Tacos Guaymas Family Mexican Food

I didn’t realize that Tacos Guaymas Family Mexican Food at 2630 South 38th Street, Tacoma was a chain of ten and I also didn’t realize that it had a drive through. What I did know is that they have really good food that is reasonably priced and plentiful. Dear daughter and I went through the take out lane and purchased dinner (a bean & cheese burrito for her and tortilla soup for me).

The website for the restaurant can be found here

Siam Thai Restaurant

Today we went to celebrate my daughter’s dear friend’s graduation at the Tacoma Dome and then we all went out to the Siam Thai Cuisine Restaurant at 1629 Eastlake Boulevard, Seattle, WA 98102. I loved the decor which is sleek and modern.  The food was really good too and the server was very attentive and quick. Adding the excellent company to that, made it an altogether a good experience.

Medi’s for Valentine’s Pizza

Medi’s at 2710 6th Avenue was a great choice for a Valentine’s meal. We somehow missed lunch, so went at the early time of 4. We ordered their special, a large multi-cheese pizza for $13 and a cheesesteak. It was way more food then we could eat, so we brought some pizza home to dear daughter and there is still enough for lunch tomorrow.  Medi’s opened in September based on how busy it was, they are doing well. I was glad to see it was a family restaurant because I plan to take my dear daughter to lunch here sometime.

This parcel of land was originally the site of a cottage built in 1889. In 1925 the current building was constructed and occupied by C.S. Enger Hardware Co. Sluggo Music opened on Valentine’s day 1979 and was there until 2011. Medi’s Pizza has the Sluggo Music sign hanging up in tribute.

Birthday Pie at Shari’s

Dear husband’s birthday was a on Thursday and we just got got around to celebrating. We went out to a movie and I offered to stop at Stadium Thriftway and buy a birthday cake, but apparently a birthday pie was more to his liking. So we stopped at Shari’s at 2323 South Union Avenue and after much discussion we selected a Velvet Chocolate Silk pie, which proved to be rather tasty.

The pizza was cheese with a choice of two toppings. I had mushrooms and ricotta cheese and dear husband had mushrooms and hamburger. He had their famous African peanut chicken soup, which was very tasty and I had the salad which was OK.

We Love Meconi’s

Meconi Italian Subs is our favorite chain of sandwich places. There are three of them (Olympia, Tumwater and Lacey). Today dear husband and I went to the Merconi’s at 111 Tumwater Blvd. SE in Tumwater. We picked up three full, delicious hoggies — turkey (his), roast beef (mine) and veggie (the teens) — and brought them home to dear daughter.

For more info, here is Meconi’s website and facebook page.
