North Slope Coffee House

I needed a lime for Sweet Potato Black Bean Soup http://www.food.com/recipe/black-bean-soup-with-sweet-potatoes-174500. Stadium Thriftway was nearby so we made a quick stop and then grabbed a decaf Americano at North Slope Coffee Shop at 915 N Sheridan Ave, Tacoma, WA 98403. The Shop is at the entrance of Stadium Thriftway and today it was pretty chilly. The coffee was extra good and the service was cheerful. I remember when the coffee shop was in a slightly different location before they remodeled Stadium Thriftway.

Tea at Starbucks

Seems like there is a never ending supply of Starbucks and today I stopped at the one in Mildred Center at 1816 S Mildred, Tacoma. I ordered a coffee and a piece of gingerbread. Then I went to the coffee counter and picked up my Americano and when I went back to pick up my gingerbread it was gone! When I asked about it, the barista said the other customer took it. Well, ok then. May I have an other piece? Nope, that was the last one. But they kindly gave me something else and a coupon for a free Starbucks drink of my choice. Win!

There are 21 Forza Coffee Company locations in the Puget Sound area, which is interesting since there were 23 locations in February 2011 when I used the Forza at 1202 South Union as my new place of the day. Wonder what happened to the other two locations.

Anyway, this is an especially nice place to have coffee. It has a freestanding fireplace and plenty of comfy chairs.

Starbucks in the Rain

Dear daughter and I have a rule while traveling. No chain restaurants except Starbucks. We tried to do no chain restaurants at all, but found that we missed a good cup of coffee (me) or an iced tea lemonade (her) too much. Today we were traveling, which is sad, but we were running errands and needed a brake. We stopped at the Starbucks at 1723 South 72nd Street, Tacoma.

Espress O Yourself

The first full day back at work for a while called for a treat. But not caffeine because it was too late in the day. Espress O Yourself at 1009 Regents Blvd at Alameda Ave in Fircrest, won me over with a strawberry lemonade smoothie that was very delicious! I went in instead of taking advantage of the drive through lane.  While waiting for my drink, I munched on a couple of free chocolate covered espresso beans. Espress O Yourself (love that name) is more than a coffee shop. They serve a light breakfast and lunch and have indoor and outdoor seating.

A lovely day for Big Foot Coffee

Apparently it is a mini quest to go to all of the coffee shops and stands in Tacoma! There are 26 Big Foot locations, two of which are in Tacoma. This is the Highland Hills location at 5921 6th Avenue South. The iced coffee was good and the service was fast and friendly.

Old Town Starbucks

Since most of us know what a Starbucks looks like, there is only an inside and outside shot. This particular Starbucks is located at 2112 North 30th Street Tacoma, WA 98403 in the Old Town area of Tacoma. It is pretty much a typical Starbucks, clean, friendly, reliable. The space is larger than I expected with a large room in the back. There is outside seating.

Bluebeard Coffee, Tacoma

I’ve been meaning to stop at Sixth Avenue’s newest coffee shop since it opened in April 2011.  Bluebeard is located at 2201 6th Avenue, Tacoma in the 1928 building which had previously housed Rector Antiques, Cafe WA and a Ford Dealership.  They really have a lovely, open space with plenty of natural light.  My iced Americano was very good.   Service was a tad distracted, but pleasant.  I might have had a treat, but there were only eight in sight.  But if I had known they were from Corina’s Bakery I probably would have had one any way!  Bluebeard roast their own beans, which can be purchased for home enjoyment.

The not so cheerful folktale of Bluebeard can be found here.  I wish I had asked the guy behind the counter why they picked the name!

Auto Lube and Espresso

On Thursday, I stopped for an oil change at Auto Lube and Espresso at 1202 S 38th St, Tacoma, WA 98418.   The Auto Lube always take about 10 minutes and they always do a good job.  While waiting I went over to the onsite coffee kiosk for an iced tea.  They serve coffee from the locally based (Sumner) Dillanos Coffee Roasters.

I didn’t realize that Bertolino Bros. Coffee at 2421 South Union in the Tacoma Central Shopping Center was open 24/7 until I made a quick stop. Good to know. I don’t usually have blended drinks, but the green tea cream just looked so good that I gave in. This family owned and run business has a wonderful feel about it and the staff and food are great.
