Today the Worldwide Photo Walk toured Ruston Way this morning. These stairs leading to this scuba diving beach were donated by the Washington Scuba Alliance. That little black dot in the water is a scuba diver 🙂
The Stewart Garden is situated on the grounds of Stewart Middle School in Tacoma. At first I thought it was a community garden, but now that I have read their blog, it is clear that it is a student researched, designed, created and maintained garden. The blog shows just how meaningful this is to the students.
I met a dear friend at the Hub for dinner and while waiting for her I stopped into Bleach at 1934 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma in the University of Washington Tacoma area. They really had some nice, original t-shirts and I’m hoping to go back and pick up a few. They have a bunch of other great clothes too. Their website is here. They also have a nice selection of skateboards.
Dear husband and I shared a mondo chicken burrito for dinner. It came from Taco Del Mar at2700 Bridgeport Way W., University Place, WA 98466. The first Taco Del Mar opened in Seattle in 1992. Taco Del Mar’s website is here.
Wind and rain, lots and lots of rain today and on our way home from a lunch out we can upon this tree which I thought was blown down by the wind, but no … it was struck by lightning! Reports have it that there is flooding all around Tacoma with geysers of storm water in the streets. The weather folks are predicting bad weather for tomorrow too. But everything is secure at our house and we will weather the storm.
A quick stop on the way home tonight to pick up grilled meat from Stadium Thriftway’s outdoor Fridays grill. It’s a great take home option.
Savor Creperie at 1916 Pacific Avenue in Tacoma opened in April 2013. I had some time before my book group meeting (we read The World’s Strongest Librarian) and needed dinner. I’ve been wanting to stop at Savor for sometime and there was an unusual amount of available parking in Tacoma’s museum district. I had the Maple Roasted Butternut Squash, Stilton Cheese, Candied Hazelnuts, Fresh Thyme Crepe and it was amazing. And the service was flawless. They also have glutten free rice flour crepes. Next time I go, I’m going to try a sweet crepe. I loved the hanging artwork of photos of local landmarks. Their website is here.
I remember when there was one Black Bear Yogurt and now there are six with four opening soon. They are all in the Puget Sound area except for the one in Yakima. This Black Bear is located at 1901 South 72nd Street, Tacoma. I wasn’t particularly hungry, but I had a French Press coffee which was most delicious and kept me up half the night (my bad!). Their website is here.
Luminasia was the special state exhibit for the Washington State this year and the Luminasia exhibit extends until October 13th on the weekends (Friday – Sunday). It is a glorious walk through exhibit from Zigong, China, that is made up of 50,000 lights and fabric. It took nine months to create and build.
I have friends that swear the best place to get donuts in Tacoma is Le Donut at 1317 South 11th St., Tacoma, WA 98438. I went late in the day when their selection was lower, but still they had plenty. I walked out of the store with a controlled dozen donut holes and they were indeed very tasty. The building is hard to miss in a very bright yellow!
