Casa de Leche is located in the Gold Parking Lot near one of the main entrances to the Puyallup Fairgrounds. My Spanish is rusty (or almost non existant), but it seems to me that it translate to the house of milk. The fun cow shaped sculpture was created by Bruce and Shannon Anderson and is part of Puyallup’s Arts Downtown’s Permanent Art Collection. Sauro’s Cleanerama use to be located in downtown Tacoma, but at some point moved to 10523 Bridgeport Way SE, Lakewood, WA. It had a great building downtown and still has a great building! Shari’s at 3902 Bridgeport Way, University Place 98466 became vacant in March 2012 when the company did not renew their lease. Apparently the site was going to be used as a bank, but now its future is in question and it remains vacant. Coffee Elite is a drive through espresso stand at 7214 Bridgeport Way in Tacoma. It has a very fun coffee pot shape. Dear daughter and I had successfully gotten through dentist appointments and since it was over 90 degrees we thought we needed a cold treat — a raspberry/strawberry smoothy for her and an orange creamcicle one for me. They were great!
Dear daughter and I were going to go to one of the local pools, but it was packed! So, I suggested Owen’s Beach in Point Defiance, Tacoma. It was a great choice.The weather was perfect, there was a comfortable crowd and I found a parking spot in the shade. We were bold and went out into the water and some nice lady was right when she said that it wasn’t cold after about five minutes. That’s because my feet had lost all feeling!
The park, which was named for Floyd E. Owen, a Metro Parks employee of 48 year, has plenty of shoreline/beach, picnic areas, restrooms and a concession stand.

The Tacoma Nature Center at 1919 South Tyler was a hopping place this lovely summer day. There was a guy taking photos, a jogger, a couple taking a stroll, an entire group at summer camp and me. The weather was perfect as I walked the mile loop around the 17 mile Snake Lake and its associated wetland. It’s been a while since my last visit and I noticed some updates to the 71 acre nature preserve. The bridges looked better then I remembered and there is now a Discovery Pond play area for the kids (oh, and there were some moms with kids there, almost forgot them!)

My family had made a point to watch all of the movies that lead up to the Avengers, but then two of us went on a long trip and somehow it seemed like we’d missed it on the big screen. But yesterday dear husband noticed that it was still playing at the Regal Longston Place Stadium 14 at 13317 Meridian Avenue in Puyallup. The movie was great and we are glad to have made the effort to see it. The theater itself was just fine with friendly employees and comfy seats. Our theater only had a dozen or so customers in it and we were a little surprised when the security person came through with her glow stick three times. Wonder if that has always been the procedure or if it was in response to the recent movie shooting in Colorado.
The McDonald’s at 7217 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98408 has a duel entrance for their drive through. I assume that it helps the traffic flow and allows for even more customers. This location was the site of Tacoma’s second McDonald’s, built in 1963 and remodeled in 1977. I remember in 2005 they demolished the building and built the current structure which is larger, has more features and has the before mentioned double drive through.

Dear daughter, her dear friend and I had to go to Tacoma’s first Movable Feast, a gathering of food trucks mostly from around the region. It was great. The location in the parking lot of Cheney Stadium was convenient and parking was plentiful. I had 1/2 a pulled pork sandwich, daughter had a burrito and her friend had curry. Then we had strawberry shortcake (only it was really strawberry on a split doughnut) and amazingly good ice cream from Ice Cream Social.
