The Pee Wee Tavern at 7052 Pacific Avenue is a freestanding building that was just over 1,000 square feet. It is available for either sale or lease. The building was constructed in 1947 and was originally known as the Log Tavern or The Log.
The Oyster House at 320 4th Avenue West, Olympia, burned down in July 2013. The 1924 structure was originally built to cull and ship oysters, but in 1925 a small oyster bar was added. By 1949 it had evolved into a sit down restaurant. In 1957 it burned down with the exception of some structural elements. It was rebuilt, but closed in 1995. The restaurant reopened under new ownership in 1996 and has operated as a high quality, destination seafood restaurant until the most recent fire. Their website says it is the oldest seafood restaurant in Washington State. The owners plan to rebuild. The second photo is mere steps away.
Burger Ranch at 820 South 38th Street, Tacoma, has been around for a long time. For such a long history, there is very little information on it. The public library lets me know that there use to be a Shank’s Shell Station on the site. And the Pierce Co. Assessor’s Office shows the building was constructed in 1967. I stopped in for a good burger, fried mushrooms and a really tasty vanilla shake.
Lunch today at the Silver Lake Cafe at 616 Regents Boulevard, Fircrest was very tasty. The wait people there were really nice about taking in our large group with no prior warning and everyone seemed very pleased with their lunch. Spring Lake Cafe’s Facebook Page is here.
Azteca is a chain of Mexican Food restaurants that are located in Washington (26), Oregon (2) and Florida (5). Really, The Tacoma Azteca is located at 4801 Tacoma Mall Boulevard. I would have taken a better photo of it, but it was crowded with folks starting their three day weekend.
Best Burgers at 7714 Custer Road in Lakewood is a mom & pop hamburger stand that has been around for a long time. It opened in August 1990 by a couple with the last name of best. They are well know for their friendly service and I enjoyed my cheeseburger and fries a great deal. And my dogs enjoyed the leftovers! Their Facebook Page is here.
Infinite Soups at 445 Tacoma Avenue South is one of those tiny Tacoma treasures that would be easy to miss. I lucked out on Friday and there was a parking spot nearby and many of the soups were available. They only sell soup and rolls/crackers, but they have a wonderful soup selection (19 today). I had a creamy, chicken soup to go, which is the only way to get it. Infinite Soups will be opening up a second location in the old post office building sometime soon. The new Starbucks in the Green Firs Shopping Center is at the site of the former Shari’s Restaurant. When this Starbucks opened, the smaller Starbucks in the center closed and of course the employees moved over.
Dear husband and I shared a mondo chicken burrito for dinner. It came from Taco Del Mar at2700 Bridgeport Way W., University Place, WA 98466. The first Taco Del Mar opened in Seattle in 1992. Taco Del Mar’s website is here.
Savor Creperie at 1916 Pacific Avenue in Tacoma opened in April 2013. I had some time before my book group meeting (we read The World’s Strongest Librarian) and needed dinner. I’ve been wanting to stop at Savor for sometime and there was an unusual amount of available parking in Tacoma’s museum district. I had the Maple Roasted Butternut Squash, Stilton Cheese, Candied Hazelnuts, Fresh Thyme Crepe and it was amazing. And the service was flawless. They also have glutten free rice flour crepes. Next time I go, I’m going to try a sweet crepe. I loved the hanging artwork of photos of local landmarks. Their website is here.
