Daniah’s International Market and Deli

8819608978_31fe55d1b8_b(1)Dear daughter wanted to eat middle eastern food, so we searched for them in the Tacoma area. There were two, but one is gone… so there is one. It is Daniah’s International Market and Deli at 6603 Sixth Avenue, Tacoma. I ordered a beef gyro meal (pictured) and dear daughter had the felafel, a new to her dish that she liked. There is also a grocery section with unusual imported items. The food was tasty and the service great.

DeLong’s DeLuxe, Lakewood

8659910840_b67d8d9884_z(2)DeLong’s DeLuxe at 8901 Bridgeport Way is Lakewood’s newest burger joint. It opened in February 2013. I stopped in today after a meeting and ordered a fair burger, fries and two milkshakes. The shakes were delicious and I had to throw the fries in the backseat of the car so that dear daughter would actually get some. Service was speedy and pleasant.

Joyfull Joy Pho

Dear daughter and I had taken a quick trip to Barnes and Noble and then stopped here for some take out. The woman who waited on us was friendly and the food was good.

Ezell’s Famous Chicken

Ezell's ChickenMy work friend told me that Ezell’s had a righteous special on Mondays. Indeed they do, two large piece and a roll for about $1.40. It was a wonderful meal, especially for that price! I splurged and bought a piece of sweet potato pie. Ezell’s location in Tacoma is at 1902 Martin Luther King Jr Way.

Ezell‘s started in Seattle in 1984 and currently has seven Western Washington locations. Recent news states that franchises are now being sold including one in Dubai. In August 2012, Esquire Magazine declared  Ezell’s to be “the Most Life-Changing Fried Chicken in America.”

Pagliacci Pizza, Edmonds

8648573071_d10c126d54_bSo the plan was to have my meeting and then walk around the charming city of Edmonds, snapping photos of the lovely murals and sculptures and whatever. But that plan was foiled when it started raining really, really hard and then sleeting! Fine. On the way out of town I stopped at perhaps my favorite pizza chain, Pagliacci at  10200 Edmonds Way. This Pagliacci is in a new building, I assume designed for them. It’s really nice looking, great angles and lots of light. The staff was friendly. After I paid for my large Margaretta Pizza, I checked in with Four Square. My phone happily chirped at me that because I checked in I deserve free bread sticks! So I danced back to the counter and showed them my phone and they said “of course”. Now that is customer service!

Just as well that I got the free bread sticks because the drive home to Tacoma was awful, pouring rain and so much sleet or hail that it seemed like there was a slippery inch of it on the highway! Crazy. The delicious bread sticks filled my belly and helped me resist trying to take a slice of pizza out of the box 😉

When I went to the University Pigliacci (the original one) last June, the chain had 22 locations and now they have 24. None in Pierce County though.

And for a joyous moment watch this video of workers tossing pies!

Pizza Hut Express

The Pizza Hut Express at 5322 is for take out only. We ordered through the internet, though we could have called in the order or just ordered in person. Really the pizza was pretty good and I can order a pizza with different toppings on two sides.

Pizza Hut has several kind of facilities with the Express being the smallest. There are over 6,000 Pizza Huts in the United States. Pizza Hut, Inc., it is a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, Inc., the world’s largest restaurant company.

Bulgogi at Nana Wok and Teriyaki

8378527804_7ef9cb9395_zMy friend, Carrie, was raving about the Bulgogi at Nana Wok and Teriyaki at 11416 Canyon Road in the Summit area of unincorporated Pierce County. Since I hadn’t heard of Bulgogi before I was intrigued and today dear husband and I went to check it out. In case you don’t know, per Wikipedia Bulgogi “is a Korean dish that usually consists of grilled marinated beef, chicken or pork. It is listed at number 23 on World’s 50 most delicious foods readers’ poll compiled by CNN Go in 2011.

It arrived at our table sizzling and really was tasty. Our mistake was that we each ordered a meal and we could have easily shared. But the good news is that there are leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch. 😀

Chipotle Mexican Grill

http://www.chipotle.com/en-US/Default.aspx?type=default Dear daughter was in a concert tonight and we needed a fast place to have dinner. The Chipotle Mexican Grill at the Tacoma Mall (exterior entrance between Panaras and Sears) was fast and tasty and felt fairly healthy.

(Looks like) Chihuly Art at McDonalds

I wandered out on this rainy, rainy night to take a photo of Tacoma’s McDonald’s at 802 Tacoma Avenue South, which has a hanging Dale Chihuly glass art piece. I’m not finding much information about this piece and the restaurant was busy enough that I didn’t want to bother the servers.

Dale Chihuly is a Tacoma native and I have seen him about town at art functions on occasion. He was born here in 1941 and attended Wilson High School and the University of Washington. His website can be found here http://www.chihuly.com/

Update: It ends up its not Chihuly art! Just very similar looking.
