I’ve often admired the golden dome of the Slavic Christian Center at 2014 South 15th, Tacoma. Today I caught the dome in the morning light and then later in the day I went back for some more photos. The first service was held on Christmas Day 2001 and the building has a capacity of 1,160 people.

This scenic mural is located at 3265 South Union just north of Center Street in Tacoma. It is painted on a retaining wall and features Mt. Rainier and lovely madrona trees. The artist is unknown and I also couldn’t readily find any information about the date of the art.

For Valentine’s Day I stopped at the Brown & Haley outlet at 110 East 26th Street, Tacoma, WA 98421 because my guy is fond of Almond Roca and he is always happy with a deal. Actually, I already had his present, Night of the Living Trekies (see below) because nothing says love like zombies and Star Trek.
Brown & Haley has been in Tacoma incorporated in Tacoma in 1914. There most famous candy, Almond Roca, was invented in 1924.

Update: 3.12.2016 – Dear husband and I stopped in again (he still likes a deal!) and we learned that the outlet building was originally a ticket booth during the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair. And Elvis was there! How cool is that? I added a picture of the plaque below.
Today we went to the Artist Craft Fair and walked away with a darling pair of earrings, some pie on a stick and an interesting new book. But more importantly I walked away with the feeling that in my small little way I was supporting the local community.

As a side note, I just heard today that one of my other favorite bookstores in Seattle is closing because of the economy. It is so important to support quality local businesses!
For her upcoming birthday my dear daughter asked to go to one of her very favorite restaurants, which is named That’s-A-Some Italian Ristorante. Located at 18881 Front St NE, Poulsbo, WA 98370 (360) 779-2266. We have been going here for special occasions for years now and it is still as good. I had the catch of the day (grilled fish over angel hair pasta with a basil cream sauce), my daughter had Fettuccine Alfredo and her friend had the lasagna and all three dishes were top notch. They also have an extensive selection of wine and even a small wine shop, though we stuck with soft drinks. During pleasant weather (which is the opposite of what we had today) there is outside seating.

The City of Tacoma has a wealth of wonderful murals, many of them recent. This one is located at 38th Street & Portland Ave (3804 Portland Avenue) and the lead artist is Chris Sharp. Participating artists include Shanna Duncan, Asia Tail and Patricia Vazquez Gomez.

I wasn’t sure what I expected, but the storefront has dignity and an attractive waiting area. I purposefully didn’t photograph anyone coming or going, but they looked like everyday kind of folks. I understand that they sell medical marijuana (cannabis), but I personally don’t see it being a problem being next to a store specializing in legos.
Forza is a relatively small chain with 23 locations and today I stopped at the Forza at 1202 S Union St., Tacoma, WA 98438. I met a dear friend and we had coffee and visited. Twas a lovely after work event.

In the twilight I stopped to take a quick cell phone photo of 320 bed St. Joe’s. I like the unusual shape of the main building and the glowing red lights along the top. The address of the building is 1717 S. J St., Tacoma, WA 98405.
